Chapter President 2024-2025

Hello fellow ASHRAE Vancouver Island members, friends, and colleagues. My name is Eric Loeper and I am honored to serve as the President of our chapter for the 2024/2025 year.

I first joined ASHRAE Vancouver Island in 2021 as the Government Affairs chair and as part of the Refrigeration committee. Our chapter was struggling with attendance from the lack of in-person opportunities due to Covid, but the volunteers and Board members at the time showed admirable resilience and continued providing virtual programs to the chapter membership.

I was so impressed then, by the determination of our volunteers. With that in mind, I want to thank everyone involved with our chapter over the last three years for their efforts, mentorship, and friendship. A special thanks to Calvin for being a force of stability on our board over the years.

One major activity from 2023/2024 that I want to highlight is the creation of the “Vancouver Island ASHRAE Chapter Scholarship”. ASHRAE Vancouver Island has pledged $30,000USD over four years to set up an endowment fund with the ASHRAE Foundation. This scholarship will be awarded by a selection panel consisting of members of our Board to a student on Vancouver Island attending a program related to HVAC-R.

This is a huge and important contribution that will support students who want to join our growing industry. Another special thanks to Louise for carrying this idea through multiple years, and Scott for bringing it over the finish line.

I am excited for this chapter year! We have an amazing board, full of motivated people with fresh, new ideas. We are committed to providing value to our members through relevant technical presentations, networking opportunities, scholarships, social events, and facility tours.
