The new ASHRAE Headquarters has just finished construction in Atlanta Georgia and has been occupied since October. The 66,000 square foot 1970’s era urban office is under heavy renovation into a leading edge example of a net zero energy facility. Tim is the Chair of the Technical Advisory Subcommittee of the ASHRAE Headquarters AdHoc Committee. Tim will outline the necessity of the new headquarters, the design process and resulting design that takes the building toward net zero energy without a compromise in indoor environmental quality.
Mr. McGinn is a professional engineer with degrees in both mechanical and electrical engineering. Tim has been partners in a national multi-discipline engineering firm, a national MEP firm and the latest; a national integrated architectural and engineering firm. Tim’s passion is a specialization in designing low impact/low energy systems for green buildings that maximize indoor environmental quality. For the last twenty-five years, Tim has applied and adapted the use of European HVAC technologies in North America, using displacement ventilation, natural ventilation, TABS (thermally active building systems), underfloor air distribution, low temperature radiant heating and high temperature radiant slab and panel cooling. Tim is based in Calgary, Alberta Canada, is recently retired and is currently an ASHRAE Society Vice President.
