CO2 Refrigeration Systems
Ian Welle P.Eng.
Principal Engineer - Polar Engineering
Ian has used his background in engineering and thermodynamics to become an expert in low global warming potential industrial refrigeration systems. This experience has allowed him to become the lead engineer responsible for the CO2 cooling systems for the two largest telescopes (TMT and GMT) being built in Hawaii and Chile.
Ian is excited to continue pushing the envelope by designing high temperature energy efficient hot water systems which drastically reduce the fossil fuel consumed in a facility while keeping capital costs down.
These projects have allowed Ian to work on 5 different continents, and design site-specific energy recovery heat pumps that are 30% more energy efficient than comparable off the shelf solutions.
